A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays

The winter break offer a multitude of pursuits far superior than scanning the updates: opening presents, getting stuffed on delicious food, and using deep breathing to refrain from arguing with family members. It is wished you managed to enjoy all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many thrilling news items came out during the festive period, and just in case you overlooked a few, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (In 2027)

Truly the most shocking piece of news, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—a date so remote they might as well have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, animation studio J.C. Staff will continue to be in charge. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a positive development. Yet, the main art for the continuation is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, at this point, they are probably trolling the fans.

The Ruri Dragon Series Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has forged a standing for being an top-tier animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the exceptional quality of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a rarity in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga serialized in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Has a Sequel Currently in Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for years, and season 6 was yet another outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as currently being made, and it will almost certainly air in 2026.

Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has brought us hit shows of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an influential woman and scholar in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Based on the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and intriguing visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my watchlist.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season

Immediately following the release of its twenty-fourth episode, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm release date has not yet been announced.
