A woman indicted with harassing Kate McCann allegedly left her a recorded message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

The defendant, 24, who court testimony revealed has consistently asserted she was the vanished Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, the court heard call records and data recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt repeatedly asking Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is considered the most covered child disappearance cases and is still unresolved.

'I Don't Want Money'

Another phone message, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I realize I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I know."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's one-way conversations with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Wouldn't that be crucial for you?"

"I don't want money, I possess a living here in Poland, I simply desire to know," she added.

The panel was informed that via electronic messages, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a DNA test, forwarded early photographs to her phone in a effort to display a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

The investigator, a data specialist with Leicestershire Police who gathered the data, informed the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt furthermore reached out to acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.

On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."

That day Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's voicemail saying "I will continue and I plan to establish my point."

The court learned the co-defendant struck up a relationship via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to assisting her on a visit to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in December 2024.

Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had communicated via messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the media had depicted Ms Wandelt as "a crazy person" but that she deserved to be considered genuine in the period preceding the visit to Rothley, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court heard message exchanges between the two accused, in last November, considering trying to obtain Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her trash or from cutlery at a dining venue.

"We must assert ourselves," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the trip to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a text which said: "We find ourselves sitting adjacent to the McCanns' house with our headlights off similar to private investigators. I wanted to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."

The trial ongoing.
