Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Has Liverpool's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for concerns to be raised about his position after another heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's poorest run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I've received a lot of backing from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points of course but if you are in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Conversations with The Board
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“We talk a lot. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “Through standard conversations we have I feel the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Squad Response
Slot highlighted familiar weaknesses from his squad in their European loss, specifically poor finishing and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more forthright in his view of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“For many years, I haven’t experienced a Reds side experiencing a spell of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is removed, we'll continue to compete.”
“We will attempt to get this team return to where it needs to be, prove again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the top club in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
